Ishvara Glossary of Terms

“As you read these words then, be mindful of your own definitions, and allow yourself to read into these words the widest possible meanings. Words are multidimensional. We must see all the connections that can be included within a word’s meaning, and then it can allow us to approach the Truth.” ~ Ishvara

A word is like a stair on an escalator. As soon as it has helped to elevate you to a higher level, you let go of it. Allow these words and their definitions to help expand your level of awareness; but please do not hold onto them as a system or set of beliefs.

Absolute, the
Ishvara has used this term as a synonym for The Consciousness. The Absolute is everything that is. This all-ness is a synergy of the infinitely unique and separate physical forms that are part of the whole of Life. Back to Top

actuality
The Consciousness as it is, without interpretation, assessment, attachment, or resistance. Actuality is very physical. For example, a coffee table without the label of “coffee table” is actuality. It is palpable, tangible, and it exists moment by moment. We ascribe a reality to it by calling it a “coffee table,” and by thinking of it as attractive, or useful, or a nice place on which to rest our feet. But it exists as something that is, regardless of these labels or interpretations. Actuality is the Is-ness of The Consciousness. Actuality is ultimately beyond words or description, but we sometimes must use words to speak of it.

Alaya
Alaya means “indissoluble” or incapable of division: the root of all beings and things. This word describes how in The Consciousness every thing is connected and forms a wholeness. Alaya is also the name of the community founded by Ishvara. Back to Top

allowing
Allowing is the absence of effort or striving. It means experiencing each moment without resistance or judgment. Allowing is not passive; it is very active. Allowing means taking the step that is in front of us, whatever that may be. When we are not laboring under resistance or attachment, we have tremendous energy to act.

attachment
Clinging to or holding onto anything. It includes hanging onto beliefs, concepts, expectations, interpretations, systems, structures, relationships, wealth or material possessions. Attachment creates a distorted experience, an alteration of the unique expression of The Consciousness that each of us is.

brain
The centralized intelligence that includes the physical body. It is the central organ that makes use of the body’s nerves, glands, etc., to gather and distribute information. Further, each individual brain is like a neuron in the collective brain.

condition, conditioning
beliefs or concepts “about” life. Back to Top

conditional mind
This is the personalized part of the mind field, holding all the beliefs and concepts of the past, which continue to control the actions and experiences of an individual. It is commonly called the ego. Back to Top

Consciousness, The
Ishvara uses this term to describe what some might call “God.” The term God, however, usually refers to some “Other,” thus implying an outside controlling force. The Consciousness is a wholeness, a synergy made up of individual, unique parts. In this synergy nothing is ever excluded or left out; everything is connected. In The Consciousness, all true needs are met, moment by moment. The Consciousness is all that is, expressing itself uniquely through the infinite possibilities of physical form. Each of us is a unique expression of The Consciousness. Back to Top

consensus reality
The common experience created by widely-held beliefs and concepts. An example is the experience of life as a struggle.

corporeal form
Ishvara sometimes uses this term to describe the physical body.

direct experience
Immediate knowing or feeling; the experience of the moment without intellectual interpretation or judgment.

directive discipline
The decision to no longer permit an emotion, a condition, or a habit to govern our experience by realizing the price we have been paying for the emotion, condition, or habit, and deciding not to pay that price in this moment. It involves using the light hand of direction, instead of a heavy hand of control or force. For example, by letting go of the label for an emotion (e.g. "anger" or "fear" or "frustration") and experiencing the raw energy underlying it, the emotion becomes a feeling; or deciding in this moment not to follow a habitual pattern that has been causing suffering or has been lowering our frequency of energy.

ego
This is another term for the conditional mind. It describes the collection of beliefs that make up the perception of a bounded or stuck individual. In truth, however, the ego does not exist. To struggle with the ego is to struggle with an illusion. So the attempt to overcome the ego only serves to perpetuate the illusory experience of disconnection or isolation. Ishvara sometimes refers to the ego as the I-consciousness. Back to Top

emotion
The energy that arises from misunderstood or unresolved experiences of the past. Examples of emotions are chronic anger, or resentment, or depression.

energy
Energy is the power and moving force of all of creation. This vibrating stuff of the universe is the carrier of all intelligence that was and is, together with the possibilities of what might be. Back to Top

feeling
Spontaneous expressions of the True Nature, for example joy, compassion, or the feeling of connection with all that is. Back to Top

feeling-being
Feelings that often arise spontaneously, stimulating a sense of well-being and presence. These are expressions of one’s True Nature, for example joy, compassion, and the feeling of being connected with all that is. Back to Top

feeling-knowing
Feeling-knowing is awareness without doubt. It is not thought or belief. It is not intuition. Feeling-knowing is the direct experience of The Consciousness that we are, moment by moment. It is the experience that there is only The Consciousness, there is only this moment, and there is no other. When we live from feeling-knowing, our lives are transformed.

frequency
The rate of vibration of energy. Vibration determines how energy will act in a particular moment.

future-present
The new human lives life with the aid of feeling-knowing of future possibilities, still in the present, free from the past, but with a nonattached awareness of possible future events and directions. Back to Top

highest good
The feeling-knowing that everything is all right. Back to Top

hollow space
This term describes the experience of The Consciousness in the absence of all beliefs, concepts, systems or structures. The Consciousness is the hollow space, yet it is not simply a vacuum. It is everything that is. It is the absence of all concepts, yet the fullness of all that exists. To experience this emptiness/fullness is
feeling-knowing. Back to Top

human nature
The conditioning and programming that has been experienced in human existence. Human nature includes the personality. Human nature alters uniqueness.

I-consciousness
See ego.

intellect
The working aspect of the brain. In its lower functioning, the intellect looks for ways to implement the long-held beliefs and concepts of how life should be. It is often a negative commentator. The intellect’s higher function is to access feeling-knowing and to look for connection and harmony in every moment, such as, “What part am I playing in the whole?” Back to Top

intelligence
The accumulation of experiences together with the knowing as to how these experiences are connected; wisdom.

Is-ness
Life without the distortion of beliefs or concepts; what is actually taking place, moment by moment. Is-ness can be experienced, but it cannot be adequately described or captured in words. Some concepts may be helpful in pointing us to the experience of Is-ness, but concepts in themselves cannot contain the experience.

Ishvara
A Sanskrit term meaning “all that humanity can know of God.” Ishvara became aware of this name in the clarity of his awakening event. Since then, his life has been focused on fully expressing The Consciousness that he is, moment by moment. Ishvara is not a master of words. He is a master of presence and allowing. He is a living example of all that humanity can know of The Consciousness. Ishvara's Biography - Ishvara's Role

Life See The Consciousness

little self
The consensus self; the belief that you are the conditions and beliefs of your past. It is often the sense of a “me” that is against the world.

Natural State
The state or level of awareness where all concepts and beliefs are suspended. This awareness allows for the acceleration of the mind-body into a liberated unconditional existence that goes beyond past and current levels of intelligence. This state allows for the awareness of future possibilities and the feeling-knowing of the steps that need to be taken to bring about a new level of human existence.

New Consciousness
The awareness of a new way of being for humanity. The level at which the new human will function in a more pure realm of connected existence that has transcended the conditional beliefs and concepts of the past. This awareness allows for the realization of a sustainable future for all of humanity and the earth. The true planetary citizen is born without borders. The diverse and unique expressions of each new human are accepted as a part of the whole.

personality
That set of reactions and defenses that we learned at a very young age in order to try to protect and express ourselves. The personality is a set of beliefs and patterns founded on the illusion that “I” am powerless or “I” need to find a way to fit into the world around me. Often the personality masks one’s true uniqueness. Back to Top

perspective
What is seen at a particular level of awareness. Perspective can be clouded by conditions and programming, or expanded through surrender of attachments and beliefs.

radical transformation
The surrender of all concepts which say, “This is the way life is”.

reality
The experience that is created by our thoughts, beliefs and concepts. For example, when we allow Life to be as it is and then take whatever step there is to take, moment by moment, Life is effortless. That is the actuality of The Consciousness. The Consciousness is an effortless flow of energy. This actuality is distorted by the belief that one is a powerless individual who must struggle and strain to get what is wanted in life. That belief creates suffering. This suffering is reality, a credible experience created by belief. It is a distortion of the Is-ness of The Consciousness.Back to Top

right view
To have right view is to see the moment as it is, without resistance or attachment. Right view is the clarity that comes when we live without an agenda. When we live with right view, we are not trying to control or alter the moment. Instead, we are allowing the highest good to unfold, moment by moment.

separation
Usually the belief that there is some “other”: some other time, some other place, some other experience than what is occurring in this moment. This belief arises mainly from the experience of physical separation. My body is separate from yours, and so the conditional mind thinks and allows that there must be the “other”. From this belief come all forms of division: “heaven and earth,” “human and divine,” “body and soul,” “this lifetime, next lifetime.” The belief spawns greed, striving, violence and bigotry. It is the root of human misery. In authentic awareness we are liberated by seeing Life is a synergy of separate unique expressions that can come together in connection to form a greater wholeness.Back to Top

Space, the
The Space is the presence of The Consciousness, undistorted by beliefs, concepts, systems or structures. In this clarity, radical transformation occurs at an accelerated pace, without effort or strain. The Space is not confined to any location. It is everywhere. Yet the clarity of the Space is palpable in Ishvara's presence.

soul
The belief in a soul is part of the belief in the “other“: some outside heaven, hell, or some other life. Ishvara refers to soul as the accumulation of personal experiences that are held in the brain-mind for learning purposes. Authentic awareness brings the realization that this life is it. There is no other life to experience, and there is no part of the human personality that survives death. When the brain ceases to exist, the body ceases to exist, and that life experience becomes part of the continuing accumulation of the intelligence that is The Consciousness. Back to Top

spirituality
This is generally understood to refer to the path of awareness. Unfortunately, however, this term usually refers to a realm which is outside. For example, “spiritual” has been divided from “physical.” Yet in authentic awareness, there can be no such division.

surrender
Not holding on to beliefs, concepts, systems, structures, wants, or expectations.

synergy
Synergy is that process in which the whole is greater than the sum of its parts
Back to Top.

transformation
A physical process in which the body changes and accelerates, moment by moment. It is not a quest for mental breakthroughs.

True Nature
The inherent way of being as The Consciousness that you are. True Nature is expressed uniquely as you. (See uniqueness). In True Nature, rather than opposition to life, there is harmony with life. And so True Nature expresses allowing, patience and compassion.

uniqueness, unique expression
Those qualities of True Nature that are being expressed individually by Real Persons. Through the uniqueness of each individual, The Consciousness expresses and experiences the infinite diversity and possibilities of itself.
